Fact Sheet for Parents
To Parents/ Guardians looking for a Big Brother
or a Big Sister for their child----
Thank you for your interest in our program. A Big Brother/Big Sister
introduces a child to new worlds and brings magic into a child's life.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is about sharing Little Moments and Big Magic
with a little Brother or a Little Sister.
Our agency serves single or two parent/guardian homes in New London
County, boys ages 6-12 and girls ages 5-14. We offer both community-
based and site or school- based programs. As an agency serving children,
we have developed a successful application process for both volunteers
and youth/families. The volunteer application process asks an applicant
for references and releases to run a driving and criminal background
check. We also conduct an in-interview/orientation with each applicant.
The youth application process includes an application, in person
interview with parents/guardians and youth. This information allows the
professional staff to find the best possible match for your child.
We ask volunteers for a consistent commitment to an approved match with
a Little Brother or Little Sister –one year for the community program
and six –nine months for the site based programs. This commitment leads
to the development of a rewarding one-to-one relationship plus agency
support.
