This mentoring program is a  collaboration with Mitchell College and Connecticut College.  The program offers a child both a one-to-one mentor relationship and the opportunity to experience social, cultural, and recreational experiences.

College Mentors

This program matches children in first through fifth grades with high school students in the ninth through twelfth grades, which provides the child with an older role model, friend and mentor.

person doing things they enjoy — a few hours a couple times a month filled with shared interests and activities. The schedule can be flexible to meet the needs of mentors and young people in different kinds of situations. There’s almost no one so busy that they can’t find a way to fit in a few hours a month.

Community-based One-to-One Mentoring is the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters relationship. It’s all about one-on-one time spent with the volunteer and the young

Growing up is hard enough with both parents, but when a parent is missing because they are incarcerated, it becomes so much harder.  In New London County more children face this

challenge every day. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut offers the Children of Promise program, a program focused on reducing the cycle of crime in New London County.

This program matches fifth and sixth grade students identified potentially at risk of academic failure or dropping out of school with cadets from the

U.S. Coast Guard Academy.  Cadet Pal matches meet at least twice per month often on the Academy campus taking advantage of the tremendous resources available there.

Similar to our traditional one-to-one programs, this program looks to serve a growing Native American community in New London County with

the help of the Mashantucket Pequot, Mohegan and other local tribes by identifying at-risk youths, encourage their personal growth, and support knowledge and respect for their cultural heritage.  Involvement in this program can be as a Native American mentor or mentee.
