Mission Statement

The Mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut is to make a positive difference in the lives of children and youth, primarily through professionally supported one-to-one relationships with a caring adult, and to assist them in achieving their highest potential as they grow to become responsible men and women by providing committed volunteers and maintaining National Standards of Excellence.

 

Vision Statement

As the premier mentoring organization serving children, families and the communities in New London County, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut has a vision to develop the resources to create an environment and the mechanisms to provide caring adults in the lives of all children in need.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut is the acknowledged leader in building professionally supported dynamic relationships that unite children with committed volunteers, primarily on a one-to-one basis, transforming their lives and enriching families, communities, and society.

To achieve our vision, we will continue to build on our proven experience, recognizing the value of all individuals, respecting their differences and appreciating their efforts in the service of youth.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact on youth.

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut has been committed to developing one-to-one mentoring relationships between volunteers and children who come from difficult circumstances. Youth begin the program between the ages of 5 and 14 years old and are usually referred by parents, teachers, counselors, or support agencies.

 

The variety of programs offered by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut include one-to-one friendships, couples mentoring, school based mentoring and college mentoring programs.† For more on our programs, click here.

Since its inception in 1965, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut has become the premier mentoring organization in New London County, now serving over 800 children and families within our community.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States.

 

Since 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America has been dedicated to serving the needs of low income disadvantaged children and youth with carefully screened, trained and supported volunteer mentors. A century of experience has attracted numerous recognitions from our nationís presidents, federal agencies, and most importantly touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of adult men and women who were once a Little Brother or Little Sister.
